Apple Announce Jailbreak illegal

Apple have announced jailbreaking your iphone or ipod touch is illegal! most people feel that because they own the phone the can do what ever they want with it, however when you jailbreak you iphone it alters the software installed on the phone which is owned by Apple. Therefore jailbrekaing is copyright infringement.

Why now!?

Most people with a jailbroken iphone or ipod touch will have heard of cracked apps. Basically people have found a way to crack apps from apples App Store. This was good at the start when it was only for expensive apps… however now its possible to get any app on the app store for free. This is because Developers have released an app called crackulous which allows people to crack apps which they have bought and upload them so they can be downloaded by others. 

Can we still jailbreak!?

For now it is still possible to jailbreak your iphone and ipod touch, But I suspect apple are working on ways to prevent it in their next firmware release. So when it comes make sure you research it before jailbreaking!

South Park Mobile

While surfing some iphone blogs yesterday I stumbled across a site called Southparkmobile.net which allows you to watch every single episode of south park for free. Watching it on safari works perfectly  BUT they have recently released an app in cydia. Check it out. www.southparkmobile.net

New Call of Duty 5 Map Pack

Over ar www.callofduty.com they have announced their plans to release a Map Pack for Cod WaW. The Pack contains 3 new maps : 

 

Nightfire
In “Nightfire,” players take to the streets of a war-ravaged Berlin with only the flames of the burning city to expose the enemy.

Station
“Station” offers a bombed out underground train station littered with hidden passageways and destroyed subway cars.

Knee Deep
“Knee Deep” takes place on the island of Peleliu in a once tranquil village turned chaotic Japanese command center.

BUT theres more!! ..

there will be another map for nazi zombies, with more weapons and a new “perk-a-cola” machine where u can buy perks. The map will be based on the map asylum.

The map pack will b available  in March for xbox, pc and ps3 . I am not sure yet if it will be free but looks like it will be free for pc.

iPhone 2.2.1

Apple have just released their 2.2.1 firmware which fixes minor bugs but mainly fixes for safari. Altough this is a very small update, if you really feel the need to update to 2.2.1 . . . The Best Software

Recently I spent alot of time trying to get my computer in perfect condition. After days of searching I Finaly have a computer which is secure and nice to use

1. First thing I advise is Patching your uxtheme.dll file. This allows you to Apply various themes to your xp. Before you do this goto | Start > right click on my computer > properties | make sure it says Service pack 2 or service pack 3. Now use UxTheme Patcher to patch your dll.

2.  Next is a Dock. There are a few Docks for xp out there but I found that the best was Rocketdock is easily customizable and runs very smoothly.

RocketDock allows you to customize the icons on your dock by right clicking an icon. The icons I use are mac os x icons which I got from the Mac4Lin project.

3. Now find yourslef a good wallpaper. There are Millions of wallpaper sites on the web. The best site i found was www.interfacelift.com. here is the wallpaper i use:

4. I spent a while thinking of what software i used everyday and came up with this list.

- Mozilla Thunderbird

- VLC media player

- Gimp Image Software

- iTunes ( or winamp )

- Msn Messenger ( depending on your favourite IM )

5. Choosing the best browser was difficult, each browser has their own perks. I eventually decided on Mozilla Firefox Because :

-Fast Browsing ( Google Chrome can be faster )

-Fast Downloading

-Large Selection of plugins

6. Last but not least is securing your computer. I use Ccleaner to remove all the crap off my computer  ( Crap cleaner ) and for my anti-virus  I use avg because:

-finds most infections

-Deep Scans

-Nice GUI

I also found that trial versions of anti-virus were a waste of space, so I managed to get my hands on these…

Sinowal Trojan Virus

500,000 bank accounts have been hit by the Sinowal trojan virus. The virus has been around for the last 2 years now collecting information. The virus uses a common method of infection known as drvie-by downloads, which means you dont have to be downloading files to get infected. IUsers can get infected without knowing if they visit a website that has been booby-trapped with the Sinowal malicious code. It is said to be dangerous to anyone with an internet connection .

Researchers at Google discovered hundreds of thousands of web pages that initiated drive-by downloads. It estimated that one in ten of the 4.5 million pages it analysed were suspect.

Protection – ‘ think before you link ‘

That just means observe where you are going on the web. Be wary of clicking on anything in a high traffic site like social networks. RSA urged users to be wary if their bank started asking for different forms of authentication such as a social security number or other details. People think not clicking on a pop up or an attachment means they are safe. What people don’t realise now is that just visiting a website is good enough to infect them.

Linux on iPhone!

Linux is now available for hacked iphones, 3g iphones and first gen ipod touch. As good as this sounds there is still alot of work to be done. . . for example there is no touch screen suport!, no wifi or sound. However you must keep in mind that this distribution of linux is still under serious development and may not be ready for weeks. It is installed as a dual boot which means that u dont loose your apple os allready installed on it. On the distribution there is:

- Framebuffer driver
- Serial driver
- Serial over USB driver
- Interrupts, MMU, clock, etc.

NOT on distribution:

- Write support for the NAND
- Wireless networking
- Touchscreen
- Sound
- Accelerometer
- Baseband support

If you are willing to test this out an installation tutorial can be found at http://www.iphone-dev.org/planetbeing/LINUX-README.txt, However i do not advise it for those who do not understand what they are doing. Altough this is not a very stable version of linux for the iPhone, it is definitly a step forward to an alternate os on the iPhone.
